Research 2000 has been working double-time in Kentucky lately; they ran a poll for Daily Kos last week showing McConnell up by four, and they turned right around and fielded another poll for the Lexington Herald-Leader (10/19-21, likely voters, 10/15-16 in parens):
Bruce Lunsford (D): 43 (42)
Mitch McConnell (R-inc): 47 (46)
(MoE: ±4%)
Virtually unchanged. Once again, Lunsford still faces the same problem: while McConnell’s unfavorables are high, so are his. Which man will they dislike more on election day?

This guy never wastes an add. They are always hard hitting.
Part of the high unfavorables for both might be due to (my impression at least) that Kentucky votes are a politically crabby bunch. I’ve noticed over the years that in more than most places, both D’s and R’s in Kentucky have a “screw all of them” mentality (kind of like New Jersey voters seem to have). And it doesn’t help that their last two governors before now were mired in scandal — one for cheating on his wife and helping out his girlfriend, and the other for being an all-around crook.
I think Mitch McConnell may turn out to be LAMER. When the best news that could possibly come out is a 7% lead from Rasmussen (with McBush being up by only 8%), McConnell looks to be in deep sh*t now. Bluegrass State voters may finally be ready to ditch Mitch. 😉
…than most of the other battlegrounds. I’m more inclined to see Musgrove win Mississippi due to a high black turnout. Lunsford’s bounce seems to be directly related to McConnell’s high-profile role in the bailout, and I suspect that’ll wear off by election day, particular with the assistance of coattails from McCain among the “late deciders”. If it was Lunsford vs. Bunning this year, however, you gotta figure Lunsford would be ahead by 15 points.
and as long as mcconnell doesn’t get over 48, i think lunsford wins. i read someone – maybe rothenburg – say that he didn’t think kentucky would elect a liberal like LUNSFORD!? if lunsford is a liberal, zell miller is a mainstream democrat. lunsford endorsed crazy right evangelist ernie fletcher against the democrat.
he’s a bastard, but he’s our bastard. GO ERNIE!
